Here are the latest updates to bilabl in April 2026. This release introduces enhancements focused on improving task management, navigation, and record organization across bilabl. Below is a summary of what has changed:
Manage Tasks at the Client level
You can now create and track tasks directly under a Client without linking them to a Matter. This is particularly useful for firm-wide activities such as client onboarding, KYC reviews, and relationship management that are not tied to a specific Matter.
A new Tasks tab on the Client page gives you a complete view of all tasks across the Client and its associated Matters in one place.
Tasks on Matter pages are now organized within a dedicated Tasks tab, providing a cleaner and more structured layout.
Smarter Navigation with Breadcrumbs
Moving between related records is now faster and more intuitive. The enhanced breadcrumb shows exactly how records connect between Clients, Matters, Tasks, and Subtasks, so you always know where you are and can move between them without losing context.
Link or update a Task's Client or Matter association directly from the breadcrumb.
Tasks with linked timesheets are locked from reassignment, protecting billing and timesheet data integrity.
The record picker now surfaces your 20 most recently updated records by default, helping users locate and switch records more efficiently.
Custom Code Formats for Clients and Matters (Pro plan and above)
You can now define your own code format for Clients and Matters in bilabl, instead of using the default system codes. This helps align bilabl with your firm’s existing file numbering or reference system.
Set separate formats for Clients and Matters independently or configure Matter codes to follow the Client code format based on your firm's preferred convention.
Once the configuration is applied, all records, including existing ones, are updated to the new format.
Notes:
This feature is available as a new Add-on under Workspace Configuration → System Code.
Set up your code format before creating new records to ensure consistency across invoices, documents, and emails from day one.
Additional improvements
This release also includes several other enhancements:
Matter sub-categories: Matters can now be organized into sub-categories for more detailed classification. When a user selects a category that contains sub-categories, the available sub-categories are shown for selection.
Total billable amount in the Matter list: Each Matter now displays its total billable amount directly in the table, calculated based on hourly rates and billable hours across linked timesheets. Users can now review billing totals directly from the Matter list without opening each Matter individually or switching to the Timesheet module.
Automatic cleanup for deleted linked records: When a Client or Matter is deleted, all tasks and sub-tasks linked to that record are automatically removed to maintain clean and accurate task records.
